One of the best sport films of all time.

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2010 10:58 (A review of The Wrestler (2008))

The Wrestler has gone way above my expectations. It is a complete masterpiece of sports films. Some people have referred it as the new Raging Bull and the sports film of the decade. I would call it both for these various reasons. It is a very emotional story with a rather heartbreaking storyline, it has very realistic effects and it has absolutely beautiful characters to watch. This film is one of those rare sports films that are actually really serious and have a very powerful meaning. For example, the meaning of the boxing film Cinderella Man is that it is a story or committing yourself for your family because you are poor and are endangered financially. The Wrestler has a very different and very new meaning compared to other sports films that have been made in the past. To me so far, this is the sports film of the decade but not of all time (Raging Bull takes that place). The reason why my expectations weren't very high on The Wrestler was because it was directed by a director that has been extremely bizarre films that have a fantasy of their own (Darren Aronofsky - The Fountain, Requiem For A Dream, Pi). Also, it seemed like an extremely bizarre wrestling film as well but when you watch it, you will discover that it really isn't at all. When you see the name of the title 'The Wrestler' it seems like a rather weak story that doesn't even try and think of a decent name but when you see it, you will see that it didn't even need to try and you would forget about the name of the film, you would just remember what is in it.

Mickey Rourke delivers the best leading male performance of 2008 but not best male performance of 2008. That goes to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight of course. Mickey Rourke is a perfect match for Randy 'The Ram' Robinson. What I truly loved about Randy's character was that people seem like he rips off or copies the actions of another professional wrestler particularly in the WWE such as Hulk Hogan but he isn't. He is a very different wrestler compared to other wrestlers there are in real life. Also, Mickey Rourke was a professional wrestler in his earlier days of his life and that is probably the main reason why Rourke was the best choice for Randy 'The Ram' Robinson. Mickey Rourke has never really had any proper credit for the films he has been in before apart from Sin City and The Wrestler is the film that guarantees him an Oscar nomination or even a win if not Sean Penn. I never thought I could see Mickey Rourke playing a character with a lot of emotion that you could feel sorry for but he has done it. Mickey is good at playing really hulky characters like Randy and Marv which is another key point I am making of why he was so good as Randy. I don't really know who would be able to portray Randy 'The Ram' Robinson any better than Mickey Rourke did. Well, Sylvester Stallone would have been an option because of the body build especially because of Rambo but he would have only done a really shit job because he is a crap actor and he probably knows it. His acting was literally perfect: his body build, his voice, his style of acting and communicating with people. Before I saw The Wrestler, I was surprised that Marisa Tomei was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes but after seeing it I now realise that it is no surprise that she was nominated for that award in that category. Her performance was very slimy with a slimy attitude in which Cassidy really is like. Cassidy is a stripper who works at a strip club. Marisa was really good because she was obviously an older stripper which is part of Cassidy's character and also because Marisa seems like a really irresistible woman for a 40-year-old which is very rare of a woman at her age. She will be a close favourite for an Oscar nomination this year as well.

Darren Aronofsky directs this film like no other director could. He has done some extremely bizarre fantasy stories in the past but this one totally tops them all like a hammer sticking a nail in a wall. He has created a story that I didn't think would turn out as good as it really did. He has finally created a film that some people won't be bewildered or confused by as he did for Requiem For A Dream, Pi and especially The Fountain. When you see the poster of the film for the first time, I think that it looks like a golden wrestling film with a real fantasy story but it isn't a fantasy at all as I have already said. He has directed a film that will always be remembered as the best wrestling film of all time if not one of the top sports film of all time. This is without a doubt Darren Aronofsky's best film and it is as simple as that. The script was originally written which doesn't really happen very often with sports films. It had very original characters and with a very original plot so it is better that way.

I would love to see Aronofsky make more dramas like this one with a very powerful meaning to it. The Wrestler is certainly Mickey Rourke's best performance which for some reason feels like a breakthrough performance for him even though he must be in his 50s or 60s. I choose Mickey Rourke over Sean Penn for Best Leading Actor definitely. The Wrestler is a rather memorable performance from Marisa Tomei which makes this film the best from her too as well as In The Bedroom.

The Wrestler is one of my favourite films of 2008 without a single doubt in my mind. It is the best sports film since Cinderella Man which makes it the fourth best sports film of all time after that film and Cinderella Man and Bend It Like Beckham. I will always remember this film as more than a masterpiece. I would best remember it as a new, creative and artistic film that brings a bright and clever future to its genre both drama and sport.

Extremely underrated!

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2010 10:57 (A review of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas)

This film is one of the most emotional and heartbreaking films that I have ever seen before. This film is really beautiful at the same time because it teaches us that people who are supposed to be enemies can be friends at the same time like normal people can. This film showed us the unusual way of the holocaust because two of the four I have seen are true stories. I mostly thought this was quite unusual compared to the other Holocaust films because it only involves two young kids rather than every single Jew (Schindlers List) and only one person (The Pianist). This film can be such an inspiration to a lot of people around the world. At least, it will be when the film is released around the entire world.

I thought Asa Butterfields performance as Bruno was really good because he is a really nice looking young man who makes the character such a beautiful one and a character that some people would fall in love with. I thought Asas performance was very powerful and very emotional too not only because of his friendship with young Jew Shmuel but also when he is around his mother, father and sister too. I felt sorry for Bruno because he needs a friend in which he finds but they are supposed to be enemies. He worries about what his family would say if they find out. Also, he is a curious young boy and wants to know why there are people in pyjamas, why they are in cages and why there are soldiers around the camp. Also, Bruno has no idea that the camp is a concentration camp where Jews get gassed and burned. I liked David Thewlis as the strict commander of a Nazi concentration camp and father of Bruno and Gretel. David makes him a really nasty and aggressive man but I dont think he is really a fearful character comparing to Amon Goth in Schindlers List. I wasnt really keen on Vera Farmiga as the mother of Bruno and Gretel because I dont think that she has that mother material in a film to be perfectly honest. Dont get me wrong, she is a really nice looking woman but I dont think she is a very good actress. I didn't really like her in The Departed either. I really liked Jack Scanlon as Shmuel because he really looked like an innocent young victim who is sort of confused with what is going on in the camp.

The direction was really good and was really well produced by the BBC. It was really well written too for such a powerful film from a really powerful novel. The few things that disappointed me about this film was that I thought it was quite slow to start with.

I also wished that Brunos father could have been more involved with the deaths of the Jews in the film like other Nazi officers have been like in previous Holocaust/WWII films. Apart from that I think The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is definitely a film of 2008 that people should consider naming one of the best of the year.

Beautiful, inspiring film that touched the world.

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2010 10:56 (A review of Slumdog Millionaire)

A[Link removed - login to see] a beautiful, magical, inspiring and very thoughtful film this is that I really do appreciate for being what it is. Slumdog Millionaire is so magical because of the beautiful technical design of the film especially the breathtaking cinematography and music score. When I first saw Slumdog Millionaire, I liked it but I thought there was something genuinly missing from it but I was unsure what it was but after seeing this masterpiece again, I truly do think it is a breakthrough in not only Danny Boyle's career but also reveals a whole new kind of way of filmmaking for the future. I am going to start loving films that have been made by British filmmakers but starring Asian actors/actresses which is where this is like Bend It Like Beckham because that was rather similar. Slumdog Millionaire is a film that goes beyond words. It is really original when it comes to the "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" show but is seems like a very well adapted story when it comes to seeing Jamal grow up from living in the Slums to becoming a famous millionaire. Slumdog Millionaire is one of the 2008 films that have earned a lot of glory and powerful critical reactions to its inspiring and glorious feeling.

Dev Patel's performance as Jamal is absolutely fantastic. This film follows the story from his childhood all the way to his outstanding breakthrough in his life. Because of his success in the show by winning it all it is a big question of whether he cheated, whether he's a genius, whether it was luck or whether it was his destiny. This film tells us the answer of that question as it is goes on. Jamal's character is a deeply interesting one because it felt like he wanted us to know what he was going through in his life. I think the message the character tries to send is that he not only wants us to see what life was for him as a young child but also for people in richer countries to understand what it is like for those people who lives in those kinds of places or who are poor anyway. I became really interested, motivated and inspired my Jamal's personality and the way he was with people throughout his teenage years. He was a very friendly and beautiful boy and he was still like that as an adult during "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

Boyle's work in Slumdog Millionaire was absolutely superb with a new kind of way of creating films especially ordinary dramas. Boyle's direction of Slumdog Millionaire was so brilliant, it combined two races of human beings into one. Danny Boyle is one of the best filmmakers ever and it's as simple as that. In my opinion, Danny Boyle is the Stanley Kubrick of this generation because he is one of those directors who can create anything in almost every genre. Boyle's done drama, crime, family, horror, science fiction and romance. I'd like to see him do comedy, animation, action, war or western because I seriously think he can pull it off. The script is fantastic! It deserved the script Oscar win despite that I prefer The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.

This is an absolute masterpiece but despite how good this film really is, I still think that the Best Picture glory should have gone to The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. Danny Boyle probably deserved his Best Director Oscar because he was long overdue for one anyway and I am so glad that Slumdog Millionaire was the film that he earned one for. It is one of the best films of 2008. It is my third favourite Danny Boyle film after Trainspotting and 28 Days Later. Slumdog Millionaire is a fascinating masterpiece that I really love and appreciate for what it is like most people hopefully do.

Hilarious black-comedy! The Hot Fuzz of 2008.

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2010 10:55 (A review of In Bruges)

I loved this film to bits because I think that it is one of the very few black comedies that made me laugh. It was a comedy that I was thinking wouldnt be that good really because it isnt that common but when I did see it, it was absolutely hilarious. It is one of my favourite comedies of all time. I really thought it was a comedy with a lot of class. There was a lot of very British humour involved and there was a lot of hilarious attitudes with the characters and the country they are in and also one of the characters takes the piss out of midgets. That character reminds me a lot of Otto in A Fish Called Wanda because of the way they both are with the country they are in. Like Otto discriminates the English obviously in a nasty way in his point of view but in our point of view its hilarious even if you are English like I am. Ray has that attitude against the Belgians too. It was a film that I just think is too cool to be true. It isnt only a hilarious kick ass film but it is quite emotional because of why Ray and Ken are in Bruges, Belgium.

I dont really like Colin Farrell as an actor but I really liked him in this one as Ray because he was just bloody hilarious and made me laugh whenever he said anything bad to or about anyone. It is obviously what he says but it is mostly how he says it that made me laugh so much. Brendan Gleeson made me laugh a lot aswell as Ken because he is a typical bitter old man who is just doing his job. Ken is a really hilarious guy too even though he is so bitter. He seems to just use Ray as his job and as they are there in Bruges together they become close friends. Ralph Fiennes was hilarious as gangster boss. Ralph always seems to bring that life force into the villains he portrays. I think that Ralph Fiennes is the best actor at portraying a villain especially Amon Goeth in Schindlers List, Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter series and also Duke of Devonshire.

The direction from Martin McDonagh was really good because there were a lot of clever and different camera uses. I was predicting this film to be quite bad and to be like a rip-off of British black comedies like Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Trainspotting, Snatch and Layer Cake but I was wrong. The writing was really cool because it was so original. I dont think this will earn any Oscar nor Golden Globe nominations. I do honestly think it will rule the BAFTAs though because it is one of the best British films of the year so far with quite a bit of nominations. I am unsure what it could earn yet but it will get at least 1 nomination. I loved Ralph Fiennes in this one but I do like him more in films like Harry Potter, The English Patient, The Duchess and Schindlers List. I liked Colin Farrell in this one even though I dont really like the guy at all. Brendan Gleeson is hilarious too but not as funny as Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter films. I find In Bruges to be an underrated masterpiece that I think everyone would love. It is a film that I would truly recommend to everybody. One of the best films of 2008.

Another Pixar classic!

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2010 10:44 (A review of The Incredibles)

This is a very different animated film that has ever been done. The Incredibles is a film that is just an absolute masterpiece with such unbelievable action for an animated film which I don't think has ever happened before. It is one of the very few animated epics. Others with it are Aladdin and The Lion King. It is an absolutely incredible story with such beautiful characters, hilarious humour and really thrilling scenes. I think The Incredibles is the superhero film that almost every family have been waiting a lot time for. I saw The Incredibles at the cinema when I was 13 years old and I was literally obsessed with it but it wasn't my favourite film at the time. Two of the back-to-back PIXAR films have been the most cleverly humorous ones: Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. It is such a phenomenal film that I would call almost a perfect action animated film. It was about time there was an animated film like The Incredibles because it is like a little boy's dream to be a superhero and The Incredibles shows the reality of that ambition. The cast was really awesome.

It stars Craig T. Nelson as voice of Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter as voice of Helen Parr/Elastigirl, Samuel L. Jackson as voice of Lucius Best/Frozone, Jason Lee as voice of Buddy Pine/Syndrome, Wallace Shawn as voice of Gilbert Huph, director Brad Bird as voice of Edna Mode and more. I loved all of the different sets of characters within this masterpiece. Mr. Incredible/Bob Parr is a man who has unlimited strength. He marries Elastigirl/Helen Parr (her maiden name is unknown) and their marriage affects the other superheros and the whole town they live in. They try and keep undercover of their true identity. Helen is a woman who can stretch any part of her body in any possible way she could. For example, like messing around with chewing gum (just a figure of speech and example). Helen and Bob have three children but all three of them are diagnosed with superpowers. The eldest child Violet Parr is a young teenage girl who has two powers. She has invisibility and can create force and protection fields around her or anyone around her. The middle child Dash Parr is the most like Bob because he is a young blond haired arrogant little child. He has unlimited speed and can run as fast as a plane can fly or in easier terms can run like a bolt of lightning. The youngest child and baby Jack-Jack Parr is a little boy that none of his family thought had any powers at all but he does. Jack-Jack can turn himself into metal iron and can control temperature levels by turning himself into flames and also into little red devils. Bob's best friend and fellow superhero Frozone/Lucius Best is an American-African man who can use snow/ice in any way he could apart from actually turning himself into it. I loved Bob's boss Gilbert Huph because he is a tiny little arrogant man who has a big man like Bob as his employee who he can push around but on one scene Bob loses his cool with him and throws him through five walls of the building. That was bloody hilarious! I was in hysterics for about 15 minutes. My favourite character from the whole film is definitely Edna 'E' Mode because she is hilarious. She has a hilarious voice, wacky personality and a stubborn attitude. Her voice was just constantly hilarious every single time I heard a word come out of her mouth.

Brad Bird's direction of The Incredibles is incredible. He has created PIXAR's most hard-hitting film to date. Bird is my favourite animated filmmaker because he has created really clever films with deeply interesting characters even though they are totally different films. Bird's work in The Incredibles is beyond any other filmmaker because he makes a film that is an action film but made it clever, hilarious and quite deep in drama for the genre it is mainly part of: animation. There has never been and probably never will be any other animated film like The Incredibles. It is as simple as that and nothing/nobody can take that away from The Incredibles. It is a one-of-a-kind family, action-comedy-sci fi film. Most superhero films have pretty lame scripts but the script in The Incredibles is beyond any other superhero film other than The Dark Knight.

The Incredibles is one of the smartest animated films ever. It is my third favourite superhero film ever after The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 2. I am a massive PIXAR fan and I love pretty much all of the films they have done. The Incredibles is my fifth favourite PIXAR so far after Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc.. Bird's work on this and Ratatouille are absolutely awesome but I love Ratatouille more. The Incredibles has the best ending ever from an animated film too. The Incredibles is an absolutely amazing one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is one of the best action films of the decade. It is a film that I will definitely love for the rest of your life.

Enjoyable Christmas film...

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 20 December 2009 08:20 (A review of Elf)

For the past 4 Christmas's in a row, this has been on TV and every time I have missed it. I would have watched it even if it wasn't Christmas but it didn't really feel right. When it was on TV, I decided to watch it. I didn't really have high expectations for it since I am not really a big fan of Will Ferrell and have hated 2 films he has been in previously. I was surprised at it to be honest because I was just expecting fun family entertainment with a lot of Christmas spirit and that is exactly what I got. It was a funny film but I wouldn't call it hilarious. It was quite an emotional film as well which surprised me a lot. It definitely is a good film to watch before Christmas!

Elf tells the story of a man called Buddy who as a baby crawls into Santa's bag and is raised at the North Pole and works in Santa's workshop with the elves. When he discovers he's a human, Buddy decides to go to New York to search for his father. Will Ferrell's performance as Buddy was actually very good. I think that this could be the only film that I'll like him in because most of his other films look shit as he does. James Caan delivers a good performance as well as Walter who is Buddy's biological father. Zooey Deschanel's performance was good too.

Overall, I would say Elf is an enjoyable Christmas film that everyone should watch around Christmas time. It is funny, entertaining and it really rises the anticipation and Christmas spirit which is what I like the most about this film. It isn't one of the best Christmas films ever but it certainly isn't far off.

Entertaining but I prefer Tim Burton's version.

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 20 December 2009 07:16 (A review of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory)

I never saw this film as a young child so I don't love it half as much as people who have grown up with it. There were some moments of the film that I really liked but there were some moments that I didn't really like. I think the main thing that I liked about this film was the fact that it was a musical, the songs were very catchy and brilliantly written and I could easily tell that it is one of those films that children would grow up with. It did have good effects for its time. The flaws I think it had was the lack of believability. Yes, I realise it is a fantasy film but I think that it lacked a soul. Also, I don't think it was as emotional or thought provoking as the remake.

Gene Wilder's performance as Willy Wonka was really good! I did prefer Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka but one thing that Gene's Wonka had more than Johnny's Wonka: Gene's was more children friendly. Some children might've been a bit freaked out by Willy Wonka in the remake. Both Willy Wonka's in both films are very different despite they're playing the same character. I suppose it could be because of one of the director's style or genre. Peter Ostrum sort of annoyed me as Charlie for some reason. I think it was because of the way he speaks and the way he is with his co-stars. I do love the character, though, just not the actor.

Mel Stuart directed this film quite well. He made like a very child friendly film with some comedy, magic and even inspiration. It was filmed very well. This one as well as the remake has its differences from the novel due to director's style or genre as I have already said. The lyrics for the songs were brilliant especially the Oompa-Loompa songs.

Overall, Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory is a fun family classic that I did enjoy but personally think could've been a bit better. Wish I had seen this film as a child now because I think I would've liked it more!

Finally! An awesome Zemeckis animated film!

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 14 December 2009 10:20 (A review of A Christmas Carol)

I had both exciting and nervous feelings about seeing this one. I was excited because it is a Christmas film and I love Christmas! Also, it stars Jim Carrey and he is returning to a Christmas film. What I was nervous about was that Zemeckis has done a Christmas animated film before and it was quite disappointing. When I saw this film at the cinema, I thought it was an absolutely fantastic film! The 3D experience made it an even better film than it already was. I mean, in some scenes it felt like riding a rollercoaster because of some of the scenes within the film. I have always been a fan of Charles Dickens and I personally think that A Christmas Carol is his most famous novel. A lot of film adaptations of A Christmas Carol that have been made were all done in different generations but despite I haven't seen very many adaptations of the classic story, I personally think the 2009 version is the best one so far.

However, there was only one slight flaw that this film did have and that was I couldn't quite feel the Christmas spirit within the film. It didn’t feel as magical as I have seen in other Christmas films. It was like there wasn't a firm, binding connection between the characters and the Christmas season. That didn't affect my liking for the film despite that and I would still call it a Christmas film. A Christmas Carol is a children's book but I find it to be quite a disturbing and terrifying one which actually really surprised me. Mostly, because of the ghosts that haunt Scrooge on Christmas Eve night. Bit of advice: don’t take kids under at least 8 to see this because it did become quite scary on occasions and would be scary for little kids.

Set in the Victorian age of a bitter, grumpy old man called Ebenezer Scrooge who has hated Christmas since his partner Jacob Marley was buried on Christmas Eve and is usually loathed by the public for his cold attitude. Seven Christmas Eves later, he still is that cold-hearted man and that night after finishing his work, he is confronted in his home by the ghost of Jacob Marley. He tells Scrooge that he will be haunted by three ghosts: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come (Future). When those ghosts approach him, he goes through his childhood and adulthood during Christmas and hearing the words about him from his nephew, work colleague and others, he begins to learn the error of his ways and discover who he really is and what the true meaning of Christmas is.

Jim Carrey's performance as Ebenezer Scrooge was absolutely fantastic!! Jim returns to another Christmas film playing a character who hates Christmas (he previously portrayed the Grinch in How The Grinch Stole Christmas). Ebenezer Scrooge is an absolutely typical Jim Carrey character because Jim really is that grumpy, cold type but can also be that hilarious and terrified type as well which is pretty much all of what Scrooge is in this film. His performance as The Grinch is unforgettable and so is his performance in this one. When I found out that Jim Carrey was playing Scrooge, I thought to myself "Why aren’t I surprised? We've already seen him as The Grinch! He’s bound to deliver another hilarious yet quite terrifying performance as Scrooge." Jim also plays Scrooge as a young man and as a little child and all three ghosts that haunt him. Gary Oldman plays multiple characters as well. He plays Bob Crachett, Tiny Tim and Jacob Marley. Cary Elwes, Colin Firth and Robin Wright-Penn have other roles in the film too and did pretty well.

Robert Zemeckis hasn’t been a huge director after Cast Away and has changed the style and genre of his films because he is now an animated filmmaker and the previous two he has done haven’t really been very successful although he did have experience with animation before the three animated ones he's done so far with Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. I am a big fan of Zemeckis and I have to say that A Christmas Carol is without a doubt his best animated film so far and his best film since Cast Away. I was worried that this was going to be too much like The Polar Express but it is very different! Yes, they’re based on the same theme but plot and character-wise theyre very different. The effects in A Christmas Carol are literally flawless. In my opinion, it is technically perfect! I am not sure what film Zemeckis is going to do next but I think it’ll be pretty hard to beat this one.

Overall, A Christmas Carol is a very successful animated film that I think should be appreciated more critically and publicly. Animation is top-notch, acting is brilliant, directing is great! I would definitely say it is something I would watch on Christmas despite the connection of the Christmas spirit isn't a firm hold but it is a brilliant, visually stunning, exhilarating, entertaining and surprisingly scary film to watch!

Basically, porn for women!!

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 14 December 2009 10:18 (A review of The Twilight Saga: New Moon)

I was about 1 inch from not seeing this film because of how shit it looked! The only reason why I decided to see it was because I wanted to find out how bad it was going to be. When I saw it, I wasn’t surprised about what I thought it was going to be like before I saw it. It is definitely one of the worst films that I have ever seen in my life!! Now, it is getting really silly! Not only because it is extremely overrated like the first one but because it is like a love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob and it isn’t really a vampire film at all! What I really HATE about this one is that the mens bodies are more important to pretty much all teenage girls and women than the story itself. I find this to be as overhyped and probably even shitter than High School Musical.

Kristen Stewart is a great actress when not playing Bella because the Twilight series is sort of ruining her great acting talent because she plays Bella so badly. She has the body features for the character but she is too good to play Bella. I find her absolutely gorgeous but I didn’t really find her attractive at all in this one unfortunately. Now, Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen: his performance isnt only once again awful but this time he makes Edward like an absolute idiot!! I think that he deserves an absolute punch in the face for this!! When Rob is on-screen with Kristen, I cant feel any chemistry or any affection whatsoever between Edward and Bella. The only thing Edward is someone that teenage girls can drool over, nothing more! Taylor Lautners performance as Jacob was dreadful as well! Jacob is an absolute idiot as well and he is another character that teenage girls can drool over, just like Edward!

Chris Weitzs direction of New Moon is appalling. The director keeps changing and as the series carries on, the directing and everything seems to be getting even worse. How people can find this as the best film on Earth I don’t think I’ll EVER know because it is not really a film. It’s just a stupid show of topless men and soppy, pathetic romance to scream and drool at. It’s a damn shame that the bodies of the actors are overtaken by the plot and character development!

Overall, New Moon is an absolutely atrocious film that I don’t think this film could’ve got any worse than it did. I hated every… single… thing of this film! Definitely the worst film of 2009 and I don’t think any film will replace that. One of the worst films ever too!

Has both light and dark touch to it

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 10 December 2009 10:40 (A review of (500) Days of Summer)

I didn't really know what to expect going into this film because it seemed like a very beautiful romantic comedy and I had not seen anything from the director or the actors within the film. It is a very beautiful film to watch because of young people and love itself and how it affects people's lives but at the same time, it does get psychologically tense when regarding the heartbreak that Tom goes through within the film.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's performance as Tom Hansen was good. What I think was slightly flawed about his performance is he didn't always act like he's absolutely in love with Summer, just acts like a drooling puppy towards her and that did get a bit annoying at times during the film. I don't know whether it is just me but he looks just like the late and great Heath Ledger. Zooey Deschanel's performance as Summer Finn was really brilliant!! Summer is a young woman who works with Tom. She is the assistant of Tom's boss and is Tom's love interest. Tom falls in love with her and starts to have high hopes to begin a relationship with her but things keep changing around between the two and it gradually either gets better or worse. There are a lot of eventful twists and turns in this film which is what I like the most about films in general. I can guarantee her performance is worthy of a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress Musical/Comedy if not a win for her extraordinary and awesome performance!

Overall, (500) Days Of Summer is a romantic-comedy that isn't precisely as awesome as I was expecting but it was still very enjoyable. Marc Webb goes off to a flying start with a great debut! Not one of the best of 2009 but isn't that far off.
