The 2001: A Space Odyssey of the noughties...

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:11 (A review of Moon)

After seeing the trailer and a few images of Moon, I was blown away by it so I had very high expectations for this film. When I saw it, I was blown away by it completely! It is visually stunning with 2001: A Space Odyssey-like music and effects. I found it to be a very smart story to watch and I think 2001: A Space Odyssey was the inspiration from this film. I personally think it should be a favourite for a new Academy Awards this year but I'm not sure whether it will be because it so damn underrated!! When only seeing pictures of this film, I was thinking it was going to be an action film as well as a sci fi drama but it wasn't to be. I am glad it wasn't to be honest because I think it would've failed and it would've ruined the drama within the film. 2009 has been a great year for the science fiction genre! Other examples, Star Trek, District 9.

Sam Rockwell's performance as Sam Bell was absolutely terrific!! Rockwell has always been an underrated actor despite a great filmography especially appearing in The Green Mile and Matchstick Men. It was almost like Sam was playing himself because he was playing a character with the same first name as his real name. His surname was different. I have mostly seen Sam play criminals but Sam was playing an emotional character who is a family man so was rather weird to see him play a character like this. It is a new kind of genre for him to be part of too. Kevin Spacey provides the voice of HAL 9000-like computer system Gerty who helps Sam on his mission and looks after him in the base on the moon.

Moon is Duncan Jones's debut and what a great debut it was! One thing that almost all debut films have in common: they're all underrated. His work was a bit like Kubrick's in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Critically and publicly, Moon has been compared a lot to 2001: A Space Odyssey but obviously they do have their similarities but they have their differences too. The screenplay of this film was awesome as well with exhilarating moments during the film as well as mesmerising and mindblowing scenes especially when out in that gravity resistant vehicle that Sam has.

Overall, Moon is one of the most visually stunning and breathtaking films that that has been made in a long time! It is without a doubt one of the best of 2009 and one of the best science fiction films of all time. You CANNOT afford to miss this masterpiece!!

Great film!

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:02 (A review of Public Enemies)

I was so excited about seeing this film because it stars two amazing actors who have really made a name for themselves as of late and is the new film of an absolutely fantastic director. I had a very strong feeling that Public Enemies was going to be the best summer blockbuster of 2009 and after seeing it, it is!! I have heard many negative opinions about this film but to be honest I do not see anything negative at all about Public Enemies. This film has it all! It is very intense with extremely explosive action, very powerful dialogue and interesting characters. The setting was absolutely brilliant and was set perfectly for 1933 and 1934. I find Public Enemies very similar to The Dark Knight and Heat.

Two actors who were the leading actors in my favourite film of 2007 (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street) and my favourite film of 2008 (The Dark Knight) join together in this epic gangster masterpiece! Johnny Depp's performance as John Dillinger was absolutely amazing!! Johnny is one of those actors who people fall for in almost every character he plays. He was a very terrifying, powerful character in this one. I have obviously seen Johnny play a villain but I've never seen him play a gangster. I don't really want him to be in another gangster film because Public Enemies was awesome enough. Christian Bale is a fantastic actor but he was almost as good as Johnny was. Bale portrayed Melvin Purvis. What I really like about Melvin's character is that despite how hard it is to catch Dillinger he never seems to let it go but not in an obsessive way; more of a determined way. Marion Cotillard was good as well as Dillinger's girlfriend Billie Frechette. I can see Johnny and Christian earning Oscar nominations for their performances as Dillinger and Purvis.

Michael Mann has always been a director of creating crime epics. He proved that with Heat and he proves it once again with Public Enemies. I did think at first that the large amount of action would affect my liking for the film but it didn't at all. In fact, nothing affected my liking for this film at all because it was so awesome! Michael Mann directed this film absolutely perfectly! I thought it was really clever how Dillinger went downfall. It was like that with a lot of criminals within a country, city, village or whatever. Despite how intense and action packed this film is, I found it to be a really emotional film even for Dillinger and what his fate was going to be even though he did deserve it. The script was absolutely amazing! I am always fascinated by scripts about a true event or a true person because they make it so realistic like they were there at that time or being that person or a person who was with them. It must have been hard to write because it was in 1933 and 1934 which was over 75 years ago.

Public Enemies is one of my favourite crime films of all time and it totally deserves to be. It was my most anticipating summer film of 2009 and it is the best (unless Inglorious Basterds replaces it). It is the best film of 2009 so far and it is going to take a real masterpiece to overtake Public Enemies now. It is one of Depp's best and one of Bale's best films as well. It is my favourite Michael Mann film too. Public Enemies is a brilliantly filmed, well achieved, mindblowing, tense, explosive and kickass film that I absolutely love and is now one of my favourites.

Surprised me more than any other film...

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:00 (A review of Star Trek)

I didn't really want to see this film at all because it rivals with Star Wars and I am a huge Star Wars but after hearing all of the positive reviews and glory this film has been getting I changed my mind. After seeing it at the cinema, I am not surprised and the film totally deserves it! I have to say that Star Trek is one of the biggest surprises that I have ever seen in my whole life. This film is referred as The Dark Knight of 2009 and I really do think it is. Watching Star Trek at the cinema was one of the best experiences of my entire life. It was like watching another Star Wars film because of the space atmosphere within the film and also the things that are on the planets too which remind me a lot of the Star Wars series. What I really loved about this film was that it was tense, funny, explosively intense and quite dramatic too. Star Trek is a film that is filled with excitement of what is going to happen and how intense the film is going to be. Star Trek wasn't one of my most anticipating films of the year but after seeing it now, I think it's going to be one of the best. What I find to be so good about Star Trek is that despite almost the whole cast has changed around with different actors, effects and director and producers there is a real taste of originality to the series which is absolutely great which is something that the Star Wars prequel trilogy slightly lacked. This is a complex film and so is probably the whole series as well as most science fiction films but despite how weird it was, it didn't become a massive mess or disappointing in any way whatsoever. I enjoyed this film so much; I didn't want it to end.

Chris Pine was absolutely fantastic as Jim Kirk! Pine is an actor who proved Kirk to be reborn so to speak after the other films in the series. We see Pine as a baby and a young child at the beginning of the film. He becomes part of Starfleet and begins to grow deeper into the trust of Captain Pike. Zachary Quinto was absolutely fantastic as Spock in this film. Spock is half-human (human mother) and half-vulcan (Vulcan father). He was an absolutely fantastic choice for Spock because he looks just like the actor who played Spock in the original films who was also in this film playing the same character but a lot older. Leonard Limey was awesome as older Spock with a very powerful performance that goes into great depth of personal moments especially with all of the stories Spock tells about the galaxy and the fate of the galaxy too. I'm going to see him in the previous Star Trek films which I am looking forward to. Eric Bana was really terrifying as Captain Nero who seems like a pure evil guy. One thing that left me a question was whether Nero was human or Vulcan or was both like Spock. Winona Ryder made a mild appearance as Spock's human mother. Simon Pegg made me laugh a lot in this film. He looked and sounded very different than usual because he has a Scottish accent instead of a very English accent and also he has black hair in this one where he is naturally blonde. Karl Urban was pretty funny as Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy who was a good friend to Kirk.

Star Trek was filmed absolutely amazingly by a director who has not done any space films let alone any science fiction films at all. In fact they picked the perfect director for this film. This was a space opera like the Star Wars films but Abrams shows that he can direct them better than George Lucas despite I like Revenge Of The Sith more than this. He sort of shows George how to do it so to speak because George didn't do greatly in Episodes I and II even though they're good films. One thing that Abrams did that was amazing was that not only did he make it like an action-packed thrill ride but also an epic story that was very realistic and mind-blowing.

Despite how much I like Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and loved it as a kid, I feel now that Star Trek has literally replaced it as an amazing science fiction film within a space franchise. I've never seen a Star Trek film other than this one and now I have become very interested in it. In fact, I'll watch one as soon as I can. Star Trek is a masterpiece that I believe to be the dark horse of 2009 just like The Dark Knight was in 2008. It is the best film of 2009 so far. I think there are only 3 films now that can overtake Star Trek and they are Avatar, Public Enemies and The Lovely Bones. Star Trek is a masterpiece of science fiction films and is now one of my favourite science fiction films of all time and it is number one on most surprising films of all time list.

Absolutely beautiful film!

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 12:46 (A review of Lost in Translation)

Lost In Translation is a beautiful masterpiece that I just was gripped with from start to finish. It is a masterpiece that will always have a place in my heart because of its deeply inspiring story and beautiful filmmaking. Lost In Translation is a beautiful story of friendship and it is definitely one of the best films based on that. I loved every single thing about this film. It is just so good to watch that its filmmaking standard is just too amazing to not love. I loved how this film was filmed in a more technical way. Lost In Translation is a masterpiece of romantic comedies and is probably one of the best. Whoever wouldn't like to watch Lost In Translation or don't want to watch it then that person or those people are missing out on a lot in a masterpiece like this. It is funny, beautiful, emotional and an absolutely wonder. It is a film that some people might find quite unusual. I can't explain why because it is very hard to explain that. I don't think that anybody I have known have said that this film is bad, boring, slow, pathetic or anything like that ever and I would have to ask them numerous questions why they didn't like this masterpiece. This film ends like the viewers request answers in which I'm not going to say because it will obviously spoil it.

The performances from both actors in this film are absolutely amazing. Bill Murray's performance was bloody amazing and it certainly gave him a very much deserved Oscar nomination and Golden Globe win. His character is a character you would deeply feel sorry for and would stay alongside until the very end. Murray hasn't really been an actor who delivers top notch performances that are worthy of Oscars and Golden Globes but he hits his massive glory jackpot in Lost In Translation and for damn good reason. His acting was just so good it literally blew me away in every scene he was involved in the film. It is an absolutely amazing memorable performance that I will always remember as one of the best. Bill Murray shows he is the only actor to portray Bob Harris. Bob is an aging movie star who has arrived in Tokyo to film a Suntory Whiskey advertisement. His marriage with his wife of 25 years is breaking down and they are falling out of love. Scarlett Johansson's performance as Charlotte wasn't only her best performance but it was her breakthrough performance and it is that simple. Her performance should have earned her first and only Oscar nomination. I was blown away by how beautiful and stunning she really was in this film. I don't believe that it is the greatest leading female performance but I have to say that it isn't far from achieving itself as one of my favourite performances from a leading actress. I personally believe that Scarlett became rather gifted with this film and she was only 19 years old when she was in this film. Her performance made me get deeply interested in her character. Charlotte is a young woman who is the young wife of a celebrity photographer on an assignment in Tokyo. Because of his work, he ends up leaving her behind in Tokyo. Being bored and lonely she meets Bob in a bar and they become close friends and make them seem unlikely lovers because of the age gap between them.

Lost In Translation has proved Sofia Coppola to be a brilliant director. She is an awesome director but a very shit actress especially in The Godfather: Part III and Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. She has followed her directing talent straight after her father Francis Ford Coppola. I don't really see many women direct a film ever and I have to say that Coppola's directing of Lost In Translation is the best a woman has ever done. After her dreadful performance in The Godfather: Part III and The Phantom Menace, Sofia Coppola proves herself to be a director not to be reckoned with. Her script earned her first Oscar win and rightly so. She should carry on directing instead of acting because she is awful at that and she has already proved that twice already in a bad way. I don't think this film would have been good at all if Sofia Coppola wasn't directing it with Bill Murray nor Scarlett Johansson starring in it.

This is a film that I think made Sofia Coppola want to concentrate on directing films instead of acting in films. This is Bill Murray's best performance so far without a single doubt in my mind and probably always will be. It is Scarlett Johansson's best performance so far as well. It is her ultimate breakthrough performance and nobody can ever take that away from her. She is one of my all-time favourite actresses and this is the film that brought deep interest in Scarlett Johansson to me. Lost In Translation is one of the best films based on friendship and love, it is one of the best films of 2003, one of the best romantic comedies, one of the most heartwarming films of all time in my personal opinions. It is a film that I find an ultimate pleasure to watch. It is definitely one of the most creative films of all time as well because of its absolutely amazing modern filmmaking. A beautiful, exciting, romantic, funny and emotional film that I have loved every single I've watched it.

An absolute classic!! Ingenious!!

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:08 (A review of The Terminator)

The Terminator is a film that I didn't really like very much first time I saw it after seeing it again, I appreciated it a lot more and was blown away by it. The Terminator is a film that is very brutal, hard-hitting and violent which makes it almost perfect for the story. Only when this came out and before the other films did, we didn't know everything about Sarah Connor or The Terminator. Also, in a few ways I don't see how it could have been a franchise but after the second one came out, I could then. To be fair, the visual effects in The Terminator aren't good compared to effects now but back then they were amazing.

Arnold Schwarzenegger proves that he is The Terminator. He doesn't really act in this film but most scenes he has in the film are action scenes or when he's silent. In the first Terminator film, we only see The Terminator as a cold-blooded killer nothing more but we see in the second one his heroic side that does have a heart. The Terminator was like a possessed machine in this film. To play The Terminator, you don't really need the acting talent but only the body build with a lot of muscle which is perfect for Arnie. Michael Beihn was outstanding as Kyle Reese. There's a secret about Kyle that we don't learn until the next films. Kyle is a very brave man because he decides to protect Sarah Connor from The Terminator even though he's a human fighting a machine who is bigger and stronger than him. Linda Hamilton was awesome as Sarah Connor. Personally, I thought she was better in the first one than the second film even though she was a complete nut job in that one.

James Cameron's The Terminator is such a fantastic film to watch. His work on the film and the whole franchise is pure genius. Watching this film was like the start to the brilliant action sci-fi films from James Cameron. Cameron's two early films Aliens and The Terminator are in my opinion his two best films.

This is the best of the Terminator series in my opinion. It is James Cameron's second best film behind Aliens. The Terminator is one of the best science fiction films ever made. The Terminator is a brutal, hard-hitting and violent masterpiece that I didn't love before but absolutely love now!

A life-teaching film.

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:07 (A review of Kramer vs. Kramer)

This is a beautifully heartwarming, depressing story that teaches a lot of very valuable lessons in life. It is beautiful because it shows a persons love to another which is what we see from Ted Kramer to his young son. It shows how beautiful family really is. It tells a beautiful relationship between a parent and their child. In this case, it is best to teach a father's relationship with his son. If anybody is going through what Ted Kramer goes through in this film, then it is certainly recommendable to watch this masterpiece. I was blown away this film's heartbreak as well as the beauty. It proves that not all mothers are good and that there are some men who are brilliant parents and do the best they can with their children. It shows a way a man can have full custody of his son/daughter instead of the child's mother who either walked out, ended up in prison or in a mental institution or just simply died. It is a family film about family, love and relationships.

Dustin Hoffman's performance as Ted Kramer is absolutely fantastic. He is the only actor who would have been good enough for Ted. I think Dustin has always had a talent for playing either friendly, innocent or rather sweet characters which is why Rain Man, Kramer Vs. Kramer and The Graduate are his best performances. It is an absolutely beautiful performance that is so realistic it is almost tearjerking. His two Oscar wins in Rain Man and Kramer Vs. Kramer are both quite similar because of the innocent and friendly personalities within the characters. Meryl Streep provides the best performance of her career in my opinion. When I was seeing her portray Joanne Kramer, I could see right through her heartbreak and emotion like it was Meryl Streep battling for her child not Joanne Kramer. I don't think there was one moment where Meryl Streep didn't cry in the courtroom. Justin Henry's performance was absolutely phenomenal as the young son Billy of Ted and Joanne Kramer. It is one of the best child performances ever. Henry is now a mid 30s man.

Robert Benton is the literally perfect director for this masterpiece. He directed this one like no other director could have done so. I think that this is mixed between being great for both adults and kids. The script was absolutely fantastic. It was beautifully written that is a very deep outlook on real life which is probably the main thing that makes it realistic.

Meryl Streep's two Oscar wins (Kramer Vs. Kramer and Sophie's Choice) are her two best performances just as Dustin Hoffman's are too (Kramer Vs. Kramer and Rain Man). A lot of people say that Kramer Vs. Kramer was lucky to win Best Picture over Apocalypse Now but I think that Kramer Vs. Kramer totally deserved it even though Apocalypse Now is still a masterpiece. Kramer Vs. Kramer is the heartwarming film of the 1970s and is one of the best of that decade as well as of all time.

What an inspiration!

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:07 (A review of Rain Man)

Wow! My heart broke and melted at the same time at this fantastic phenomenon. This is such a powerful film that I absolutely loved from start to finish. I almost cried at how beautiful this film is and how much I love it. I am a big follower of autism and the meaning of what it is was told in the best way. I know someone very close who suffers from it. I love films involving a man/woman with a disability that reveals how beautiful life can be for someone despite of the disorders they have which is why Forrest Gump and Rain Man are very close to my heart. Rain Man is a masterpiece that I knew I was going to love because the story is beautiful, cast is awesome and all of the glory it has earned regarding Oscars. This film teaches us that a person can change for someone that are close to them.

Dustin Hoffman's performance as Raymond Babbit was absolutely phenomenal. It is a one-of-a-kind performance which makes Rain Man Hoffman's best film. Dustin Hoffman gave us a performance that truly did make us believe that he really did have autism but obviously in real-life he doesn't. It is something very easy to recognize when you see Raymond behave around people. I think Hoffman must have read really hard on autism or watched documentaries about the disability. As I said in my Kramer Vs. Kramer review, Dustin Hoffman is really good at playing friendly, innocent and rather sweet characters. If he plays another character like it in the future, we could be seeing a third Oscar for Dustin Hoffman. Tom Cruise delivers in my personal opinion his best performance because he plays Charlie Babbit with such arrogance which is what Tom Cruise can be like in real-life on occasions. He can also show the pure beauty of helping his brother. I can't believe Tom Cruise wasn't nominated for an Oscar in this film.

Barry Levinson's work on Rain Man was such an inspiration and fascination to me because me being a deep follower of autism was inspired by how well filmed this was. I think that the director had great commitment with autism to want to do this film and was interested in the condition. The script was very original like some of the ways Charlie and Raymond were around each other and were so different from each other, it seemed like it needed some deep research on the internet to write such a fantastic script.

Rain Man is one of my most loving films ever! I was blown away by it with it's heartbreak and it's beauty as well. It is the best performance from both Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Rain Man and Forrest Gump are the two best films about a person with a disability. Rain Man is one of the best films of the 1980s as well as one of the best films ever made! I have to say it is one of the biggest inspirations to me. People who haven't seen this masterpiece or don't like it aren't even living. You will be alive when you see this and will appreciate how fantastic this film really is.

Another Spielberg masterpiece!

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:07 (A review of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)

This is an absolutely terrific masterpiece! The third film in the Indiana Jones series is more explosive than all the others. One thing that The Last Crusade has over Raiders Of The Lost Ark is that there is more action; not better just more. To be honest, this one gave me a few surprises because I was worried incase Henry Jones Sr.'s involvement might ruin it but it didn't at all which really pleased me. The Last Crusade is quite humourous in some ways because of the relationship between Dr. Jones Sr. and Dr. Jones Jr. It is amazingly told at the beginning of the film with Indy as a young man and the action scenes at that moment. There aren't many third films in a trilogy that are good but this one certainly is. It isn't a threequal because if it was Indy 1-3 would all flow with the same sort of dialogue.

Harrison Ford proves once again he IS Indiana Jones. What I liked most about Indy in this film was he had that cool sort of behaviour around his enemies as well as his partners and colleagues. In The Last Crusade we do sort of see him as a soft guy as well as a cool one which shows he does have sensitive feelings for people. Harrison is remembered for Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy but he is better in the Indiana Jones quadrilogy. Sean Connery was an outstanding Henry Jones Sr. He was really cool and really funny as well. When I hear him call Indy "junior" I just cringe at that because it's just so cool! Personally, I think that in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, Lucas and Spielberg try to relive Indy's original relationships with a close relative in a cool manner. They tried to do that in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull between Indy and Mutt Williams (later revealed as his son) but it didn't quite work. River Phoenix was cool as young Indy. Despite the fact River wasn't in it very long, he is probably best remembered for playing young Indy. Dr. Else Schneider was a good female villain in this film. She was far better than female villain Irina Spalko in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

Steven Spielberg is a genius once again in directing The Last Crusade. He directs all four Indiana Jones films in almost the exact same way which is so amazing and original especailly for a series like Indiana Jones. The whole series are like epics which is pretty typical from Spielberg because no matter the genre, he would always turn them into epics.

Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade is an absolutely phenomenal film that deserves to be one of the best films ever alongside Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Despite how much I loved The Last Crusade it isn't quite as good as Raiders Of The Lost Ark but it is better than Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull and Temple Of Doom. It is one of the best films of the 1980s and is the best of 1989. One of my favourites alongside Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Both those films have made Indiana Jones my third favourite film series after The Lord Of The Rings and Star Wars.

One of the best British films of all time!

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:06 (A review of Trainspotting)

Trainspotting is one of the cleverest films that I have ever seen. This is a very dark film because it shows how screwed-up a person's life can really be when addicted to drugs particularly on heroin. This film is really funny in a dark film or in a dark way which are referred as a 'black comedy'. The funny thing about it was that the whole group are rally foul mouthed, disgusting and also appear hilarious because of their messed up nature. The scene which I was overwhelmed by was where Renton went down a public toilet referred as "the worst toilet in Scotland" and his whole body went down it and he got two tablets from below the water and got out of the toilet the same way too. When I first saw this online (because it was rare and couldn't find it anywhere), I liked it but after a second viewing on Boxing Day 2008, I bloody loved it and so it goes on my favourites list. It is a film about alcohol, drugs and sex. I loved the tagline of Trainspotting: "Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a starter home. Choose dental insurance, leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose your future. But why would anyone want to do a thing like that?"because it is a true statement. People should always put life first and live it to the maximum and the best way they can. That tagline catches the attention of some other drug addicts.

Ewan McGregor delivers the best breakthrough performance of all time in my opinion. I really liked Mark Renton's personality because he had a lot of problems but he does at least try at times to try and snap out of the situation he is in. In a way, Renton is quite a cute character because some women choose to have sex with him because of that. Despite of his problems, I think he has a nice attitude to him of where and how he can change his life around. I think how it began was that Renton met and made friends with the wrong people. Robert Carlyle was vile as Begbie. I think only Robert Carlyle and Ralph Fiennes are the only two living actors who can portray different kinds of villains and make the audience have a fear for them. There are four other drug addicts with Renton. They are called Begbie, Tommy, Spud and Sick Boy.

Danny Boyle directs this film masterfully in his early career. There hasn't been any film like this until now. He wanted to prove what drug addiction can do to you. It can send you mad, have horrifying visions, it can make you really ill or can even kill you. I loved this original script becaue the screewriter and director wanted to make this film look as public and casual involving the characters, the drugs themselves and how it was filmed. One thing I do find hard about original scripts is that they are quite hard to understand. Well, they are for me anyway.

Trainspotting is one of the coolest films of all time. It is one of the best British films of all time. It is my favourite drug/alcohol related film, my favourite film of 1996. Ewan McGregor's best tied with Moulin Rouge! And Big Fish. It is my favourite Danny Boyle film so far. His new film Slumdog Millionaire is supposed to rival with David Fincher's The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button for Best Picture, so don't know whether Slumdog Millionaire will replace Trainspotting as favourite Boyle film or not. You'll just have to wait and see. Trainspotting is an unforgettable masterpiece!!

Probably the most lively musical ever...

Posted : 15 years ago on 9 December 2009 02:06 (A review of Singin' in the Rain (1952))

Singin' In The Rain is without a single doubt one of the most beautiful, delightful and funniest musicals that have ever been put to screen in the history of cinema. The reason for this is because the whole story in general is all of those things and it is a story that can touch people's hearts in many different ways. To be perfectly honest, Singin' In The Rain is a musical that is rather odd in some ways because when there are scenes where the actors are singing on stages and in fantasy songs it sort of feels a bit like watching a music concert. It is a film that is a classic and is the best musical of the 1950s without a single doubt. It is inspiring because it is about love, friendship and trying to fulfill your dreams and ambitions. It is a deeply lovable story that I could definitely watch quite regularly. Where I mean that it's funny is that Lina Lamont's voice is obviously funny but it can also be pretty annoying but still in a funny way. Also, the slapstick the characters pull off in the songs they sing especially "Make 'Em Laugh". My favourite song is obviously the classic song "Singin' In The Rain" and is also one of my favourite songs of all time.

It had a really good cast and all of the performances from all actors were absolutely fantastic and hilarious. First of all, Gene Kelly's performance as Don Lockwood was really good. In films like this, Kelly acts a lot like Dick Van Dyke in films like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He has that delightful, charming and excellent singing voice which Dick Van Dyke had in those days too. Don Lockwood is a silent film star and is a famous celebrity which in my mind is almost a perfect choice for a Gene Kelly character. Donald O'Connor made me laugh a lot as well especially in that "Make 'Em Laugh" song when he was throwing himself around while singing at the same time. Jean Hagen was probably the funniest out of the whole cast because she obviously had that squeaky voice for that character and she always acts this irresitable, talented and young singer and actress. Her bad singing pays off against her when they ask her to sing. Debbie Reynolds was awesome as well as Kathy Selden. As Don and Kathy work together to help Lina with her singing they slowly gradually fall in love and their comes the romance within this masterpiece as well as the delightful music, the comedy and even the slight drama within.

Gene Kelly actually surprised me as co-director of Singin' In The Rain because he was a man who I don't think really seemed that directing type but after I saw Singin' In The Rain I was wrong and he did an amazing job. He made this film a real delight for whole family and for children at almost any age. I am unsure who wrote the songs but if Gene Kelly did then it would have become a fine achievement for him and he would have become a great song writer as well as singer and actor.

Singin' In The Rain has proved itself to be one of the best musicals of all time as well as in my opinion one of the best family films of all time too. Singin' In The Rian is my favourite musical of the 1950s therefore it's my fifth favourite musical after Sweeney Todd, Grease, The Sound Of Music and Beauty And The Beast. Singin' In The Rain is a beautiful, heartfelt and electrifying film that is just too amazing to not hate. Masterpiece!! A classic that always has been a classic and always will be a classic!
